Sri Lanka - A Land Like No Other

Liam and I recently returned from 8 days and 7 nights in Sri Lanka.  We stayed in Kandy for the first 3 nights and Galle for the last 4.  What an incredible experience! I won't bore you with the details but my highlights include:

 - drinking fresh coconut water daily
 - riding and bathing Rani the movie star elephant (she was in Tarzan!)
 - visiting the Temple of the Tooth (obviously teeth are close to my heart)
 - sipping delicious, freshly brewed tea from Mackwoods Tea Plantation and eating their homemade chocolate cake
 - exploring the Botanical Gardens and teaching Sri Lankan school children how to count to 10
 - hanging out with some seriously cute baby sea turtles
 - riding tuck tucks and taking selfies with the infamous selfie stick
 - eating copious amounts of Sri Lankan curries and taking complete advantage of the breakfast buffets every morning
 - making friends with another, particularly cute hotel guest, Alvin the chipmunk

I highly recommend anyone visiting this beautiful country at some point.  It really is a place like no other. There is such a strong British and Dutch Colonial influence beautifully integrated with traditional Sri Lankan culture.

We returned to Dubai in our genie pants, refreshed, tanned and ready to get back to work.  Liam bought 11 coconuts back in his hand luggage and spent our last rupees having his bag wrapped in cellophane to protect them! Both Liam and I will never forget Sri Lanka and hopefully go back one day.  We keep our little souvenirs and memories close to our hearts.  I am so lucky to have the chance to explore different countries with him.

Every time I sip a coconut water now, I will be transported back to Sri Lanka and our holiday happiness.
